Okra

Have you ever tried Okra? It's a southern staple, and here's what it looks like in the garden ...

Up close, it's a thing of beauty.

It's a relative of the hybiscus and the part that you eat are the pointy looking seed pods that are picked while the pod is green and supple.

Wash 'em, slice 'em, slather them with cornmeal breading, fry 'em and then eat 'em. Does life get any better?

Dear Skeeter,
Nice to see a post from you.
mmm in the state of kerala 'okra' is been known by the name 'ladies finger' :) and we will have then in our garden. it is easy to pick some and make different curries with it. I love them in Sambhar especially.

I loves me some okra in any way shape or form! Have you tried frying it after dusting it with flour? That is how my mil made it and it was YUMMY. I love boiled okra with tomatoes. Just any old way and I'm in for some.

Maybe I'll plant some next year. Our garden was a disappointment this year. The weather was just weird. Are your plants still making? hmm..

I wonder what Sambhar is. I'm seeing a google search in my future.

My partner hails from Louisiana, so we plant okra every year. We use it mostly in soup, but sometimes fried. I think it is okay, but Bing? She swoons for it.

And for the first time ever, I had boiled peanuts.
