While in Buffalo, New York, we had the chance to visit the home of the original buffalo chicken wings, the famous Anchor Bar.
We arrived at the end of the lunch rush and the small parking lot was full. After a few laps through the lot, we finally got a spot and got in line to have a bite to eat. The creator of the buffalo wing dish, Teressa Bellissimo, greeted us.
We got a double order of the wings with a medium sauce. The wings were very large and meaty. I had a hard time fitting the image of the huge plate into the lens of my cell phone camera. The sauce was perfect.
The wings were served with a dipping sauce that tasted like a combination of real buttermilk ranch dressing with bleu cheese crumbles and fresh ground pepper. It was wonderful.
The store has a small gift shop for souvenirs. It's a near her ...
I think we will visit this place again. It's only a few minutes on clear roads from the Buffalo airport. The food was really great and the building full of fun stuff to see. On the down side, the parking was difficult and the wait staff indifferent.

wow! buffalo -- wings. i get it! call me completely lame, but i always wondered where they came up with the name "buffalo wings" for those things! come on! where on the buffalo are the wings!??!?!? :) sounds like the wings were yummy and the trip enjoyable!
Unlike Sharilyn, I knew why they were called 'buffalo wings'. We have friends that moved here from Buffalo and then back again... we still hear from them from time to time, especially when the weather up there is 'FRIGHTFUL'.
The downside of the resturant.. it's usually that way in a place that is so popular... the waitstaff is overworked and underpaid.
Oh... by the way... come on down and we will get you some dance lessons!!! LOL
I love buffalo wings (or "wangs" as we say on the prairie) so much that I order them for my main dish sometimes.
Swoon. I adore Buffalo Wings, like Sharilyn didn't know why they were called that, and haven't had 'em in years. I need to get me some of those.
I know I always say this, but I LOVE when you post about food!!!
Sounds yummy! This place reminds me of Ed Debevics, in Chicago; lots of character in that place :)Thanks for the recommendation.
THis is my idea of paradise!!
Mmmm! Delicious. I am here reading you for lunch. I wondered what "buffalo wings" were. Now I know. Save some for me.

I am sure u have lots of fun on your trip...and we'll get to know more about it.
You know I have never liked wings..I know you will think I am quite weird sorry..
Thanks for coming by. I always love new visitors..come back again..
Mmmm....love me some wings! Unfortunately, I've banned myself from eating them after 7pm since they keep me up all night, lol. Those look goooooood though!
I knew where the name came from because of an episode that was on The Food Network. Now I've heard from someone first hand who's tried them. Thanks for sharing.
Cool old building!
:) Terri
