National Chili Day

Wow, is it THAT time of year again? Did you know that Thursday, Feb. 25 is National Chili Day? In some parts of the world that means a lot, but what are you doing to celebrate the chili? I decided to try Dayton's Second Best Chili Place, Jimmie's Cornerstone Bar & Grille.

The place is small, quaint and had a good crowd.

I grabbed a seat, and right away the server carried a plate of chili-drenched nachos by me that looked just great. Turns out that the dish is called Nachos Susanne. Had a Glass of Great Lakes Brewing's finest to wet the whistle.

It was a really tasty way to celebrate National Chili Day. Will be wandering back to the Cornerstone again one of these days. Parking is tricky, but there is a large lot across the street and a little south of the building.

OK, why didn't I choose the Highest Ranked Chili Place in Dayton? Because residents of Dayton chose Skyline Chili, and that stuff is just plain AWFUL!

Looks like a very tasty way to celebrate, but think about this one: instead of chips, how bout french fries. Nothin' like carbs, baby! Are you going to be in Dayton long enough to eat at all the eating places? Hope so, they are all looking really tasty. I think I will go whip up some nachos now. Thanks!

I missed nat'l chili day. However, one evening not long ago I did have a chili pie. Somehow the turkey chili wasn't as good, but on another level it was.

I'll celebrate chili day having a stuffed jalapeños with cheese at Tony Roma's. Yummy!

Ah man, I had no idea about Chili day. Are you telling me that I had an excuse to eat as many chilis as I wanted and I didn't take it? Doh!

To be honest, I don't think that chili excites me much anymore. Bing makes it a lot and I am sick of it and ready for salads.

But, after a hot summer, I will be back to loving chili again in October.

I'd probably just cook something native from Bicol which is usually spicy anyway. :)
