Big Trash Day

Big Trash Day is the one day of the month when trash collectors will pick up the stuff that's too big and awkward to fit in your curbside dumpster. It can be almost anything, including furniture and old appliances. I had completely forgotten; that is, until I was on the way over to visit Justin and Katie. That's when I saw this:

Do you have a Big Trash Day story?

I bet that toilet has some tales to tell!

No, we don't have a big trash day- I wish. The recycling van comes weekly to take paper, tins, glass- but not cardboard or plastic. So we have to use our petrol to drive to the nearest recycling centre with car loaded full of cardboard and plastic, because if you put this stuff in your bin you get a fine. And the really big stuff- you have to pay the council to collect it. Sore point here- I mean, what do we pay our taxes for???

Ah well, at least it's not all going to landfill :)

We just had one (we live in Sweden). But they don't take toilet pots, sinks etc here; furniture, old beds etc. are OK.
We were lucky to give away our old electric stove. The same day we bought a new one. I'm so happy! :)

My Big Trash Day story: a sofa, a curb. Two real old-school Brooklyn bums fighting over it. One of them grabs an end and, with near superhuman bum force, starts running down the street with it. Actually makes it a few yards!!!

Strange, we had a big trash day for TV.

We don't have that kind of Big Trash days... but once a week they will take off our yard "trash" and large boxes, and ect.
This reminds me of one of my bloggy friends who lives in Manatobia, Canada. She and her family live on a farm, and she had her bathroom redone. Her husband put this very same bathroom fixture out in the yard. She said it sat there so long that she told him she was going to make a planter out of it, unless he took it off!!LOL

unfortunately, the apt building next door to ours seems to think that EVERY day is Big Trash Day. they load their dumpster and the area all around it (meaning our alley and into our parking area) with all sorts of their refuse--sofas, beds, mattresses, shelves, and so much more! one would think someone was moving out every day there!!

I bet if you had gotten Justin wasted enough and bet him 20 bucks, he would have used that!

Wait...maybe that might have worked for on you...dang, you should have invited me to this get together..it might have proved INTERESTING!

That wouldn't last 2 minutes in my neighborhood. On the night before trash day you have to drive very carefully to avoid people rummaging through all the cans on the curb!

Where I used to live, you were allowed 2 free pickups per year, but you had to call first, and describe each item. If they came and there was something other than what you said, they wouldn't take it.

we have council cleanup twice a year.
the kids love it and bring home much more than what we put out. that whole in/out balance is all wrong here!

i have received cleanup items for Christmas at times

like megan, we have loads of people sifting through the rubbish on the weekend before

great post skeeter

Hi Skeeter!
We have hazardous waste facilities -you can take there old furniture too-. But most peple leave it in containers in the street.
It doesnt take very long before other people with trucks collect all kinds of stuffs.

Some have furnished their houses like this. It's cheap, lol.

Yes, we have a big trash day. Ours is the week of the third Monday and if they come on Monday morning and you don't get your stuff out until Monday afternoon, you have all that in front of your house for a month...or you can pick it all up and put it in the pick up and haul the mess to the dump. Somehow I just know all this stuff...from experience!

The worst part here is the regular trash only comes once a week and man we are scrambling around on Thursday night putting it out. If you miss that one...well, it will be a stinky week.

Enjoy your snow. We missed out again....but it is WINDY and COLD!

Kylie has already commented. We have twice yearly collections, each May and November called hard rubbish week. There are always vans cruising around looking for things to take.
Here in Melbourne we have three wheelie bins one for recycling paper, cans/bottles and one for the garden are collected on a fortnightly basis. One for our hosehold rubbish is collected weekly.
Cinnamon i can't believe you don't do something similar in England.

We do have that. It's suggested we put everything out the night before it's collected. Is the County nutty? How is that physically possible? I'm only a human being.

Please come over to Rose Cottage. I have a photo you and your brother will love. Please take the time to page to the botom. You'll know it when you see it!

Love you dear,
Me

Yes, I do know how to spell bottom. Typo!

I removed the post with the photo so will email it instead.

There's a contest at Just Bob's. It ends soon, so if you have time please stop by and vote for the ladies!!! CSI is probably going to pull it out, but not if I have anything to do with it! Cece deserves it. She's the only one who followed the rules. VOTE CECE!

Love you darling. Oh and just so you know, it's about 75 degrees here!
